Jamaican duo Brick and Lace return to the spotlight with their classic hit “Love Is Wicked” and it is one of those songs that reminds you immediately why certain music refuses to age, no matter how many years pass between the first time you heard it and right now.
“Love Is Wicked” occupies a very specific and very honest emotional space. It is not a breakup song in the traditional sense and it is not a love song either. It lives somewhere in between, in that complicated and rarely explored territory where you love someone and resent what that love has done to you at the same time.
The melody is the kind that gets into your bloodstream on the first listen and never fully leaves. It is smooth and slightly melancholic, carrying a reggae-influenced warmth that softens the edges of the pain being described without ever erasing it.
The production has aged beautifully, sitting in a place that feels timeless rather than dated, which is the highest compliment you can pay to any record from any era.
What made this song connect so deeply with so many people across so many different backgrounds and cultures is how universal the feeling at its center truly is. Everyone who has ever loved someone knows what it is to be undone by that love in ways they did not expect and did not ask for.
Brick and Lace simply had the courage and the craft to say it out loud in a way that made millions of people feel suddenly and completely understood.
Brick & Lace - Brick & Lace – Love Is Wicked Lyrics
Brick and Lace
Inna di place
Your love is wicked, wicked, wicked
Kill 'em
Running around I can't get through my day (you feel me)
Thoughts of you just keep consuming me (inna mi head, inna me head, oh, yeah)
And I thought I could do it but now I see
That you're not mine and I was wrong to think you'd change, yeah
I wish you could stay with me another day
I wish I could change your mind and make you stay (stay)
'Cause I, I'd give anything to hear you say (say-ay-ay)
"I'll be loving you eternally" (I'll be loving you eternally)
Your love is wicked
Tears on ma pillow cah yah love is wicked
Cry me a river cah yah love is wicked (your love is wicked)
Friends come around say your love is wicked
But the kisses wah yah give, don't you know it's wicked? (Your love is wicked)
Wait for your call cah yah love is wicked
Can't sleep at all cah yah love is wicked (your love is wicked)
Pain in ma heart cah your love is wicked
But the loving wah yah give, don't you know it's wicked?
Oh, yeah, ah, ah
Brick and Lace
Inna di place
Your love is wicked, wicked, wicked
Kill 'em
Baby, I loved you from the very start, yeah, yeah
Even though I knew that you would break my heart
And I can't resist the way you touch me, baby
Was I a fool to think I'd play nothing but two?
I wish you could stay with me another day (stay with me another day)
I wish I could change your mind and make you stay (make you stay, baby)
'Cause I, I'd give anything to hear you say (say-ay-ay)
"I'll be loving you eternally" (lovin' my man eternally)
Your love is wicked
Tears on ma pillow cah yah love is wicked
Cry me a river cah yah love is wicked (your love is wicked)
Friends come around say your love is wicked
But the kisses wah yah give, don't you know it's wicked? (Your love is wicked)
Wait for your call cah yah love is wicked
Can't sleep at all cah yah love is wicked (your love is wicked)
Pain in ma heart cah your love is wicked
But the loving wah yah give, don't you know it's wicked?
Wah mi a go do fi get over you?
Anybody have a remedy or a cure?
Someone call a doctor or emergency crew
Cah mi carry feelings fi yuh, fi yuh, fi yuh
Wah mi a go do fi get over you?

Someone call a doctor or emergency crew
Cah mi carry feelings fi yuh, fi yuh, fi yuh
