Burundian rising star Melanin Boy teams up with regional heavyweight Big Fizzo on “Narakize,” a soulful East African Afro-pop single about making peace and mending a broken bond.
The song is about taking responsibility and the tiredness that comes after hurting someone you love. Melanin Boy opens up about his past mistakes and the realisation that pride costs too much when it means losing love.
Big Fizzo steps in with seasoned wisdom that gives the song a mature, grounded view. The words are poetic and conversational, with the feel of East African urban storytelling, mixing youthful urgency with a calm message of healing.
A warm, pulsing bassline and crisp percussive loops move with cascading acoustic guitar melodies and soft atmospheric synth pads. The groove is gentle and hypnotic, leaving room for the two voices to shine.
If you are thinking about someone you hurt, or hoping to be forgiven, “Narakize” will speak to you. Play it on a quiet evening, or send it to someone you want to make peace with.
